These family photos as a Woodinville flower patch are near and dear to my heart. The young mama here was our family nanny for our three children after my youngest was born. She gradually grew to be a special and integral part of our family. Last year, Rachel and her little crew made a big move away from Washington to move to Texas. As sad as it was to see them go, we love to see this amazing family making a new loving home that is perfect for them.

Smart location for family photos

Rachel and her family visited us over the summer and I couldn’t wait to get some special photos. We decided to picnic at JB Family Growers. The farm has tables, chairs, and lawn games set up in between the fields of lavender and seasonal flower beds. I can’t think of a better spot to enjoy a warm summer evening. Choosing a location that is a fun event for the family is a great idea with children. It helps make portraits a fun experience rather than a chore. Building your photo shoot around an enjoyable and memorable activity is something your children can look back on with joy.

Keep family sessions short and sweet

There isn’t any need to make family portrait sessions long and tedious. They can be short, fun, and move along at the pace of your children. In this case, we had a baby who would much rather be crawling and exploring than saying cheese for the camera. So we moved it along quickly and I caught every moment I could. And it helped to have a couple of older kids behind the camera making goofy faces! Never underestimate the benefit of a little silliness.
