I really enjoyed this relaxed Bellevue Botanical Garden senior session with Dylan. This Woodinville senior wanted a quick, easy photo shoot but we still wanted to make sure to have enough variety in his final gallery. Bellevue Botanical Garden is a great location for this and I’m so happy with how Dylan’s gallery turned out.
Garden structures and props
The garden has a number of structures and props that are helpful for senior portraits. Many guys are nervous about photos and unsure of how to pose. I always give lots of direction and demonstrations, but structures and props are useful tools for even more relaxed and natural pictures. These give guys something to sit on, lean against, and do with their hands. Ultimately, more authentic and candid expressions are the result. At this location, we had artwork, rocks, benches, a bridge, trees, and buildings available.
Quick and easy outfit changes
Dylan kept his outfit changes as quick and easy as possible for his senior session. He planned his looks around a pair of jeans and swapped out his shirts throughout his photo shoot. He began with a nice casual sweatshirt. I always suggest that seniors start with a relaxed look that would represent how they look day to day. Just make sure it’s a clean and wrinkle free version! Next he moved on to a plaid button up shirt and then a simple black short sleeve shirt. It’s always important to choose outfits that are comfortable for the senior. Forcing a look that is uncomfortable will just lead to awkward and stiff looking images. Each outfit suited Dylan well and contributed to the overall laid back aesthetic.
Smart choices for a brief session
We were able to keep Dylan’s session moving along nicely and as brief as possible. The combination of a smart location and easy outfit choices helped us create a full and diverse gallery in a short amount of time.
