A beautiful, romantic, private Washington estate was the most lovely hideaway for engagement portraits. And they were perfectly styled in every way; from the prettiest ivory dress to dancing in the rain. There are a few things you can think about as you begin planning the styling for your own engagement photo shoot:
1. Time of year & location
The time of year and location of your engagement session will likely direct some of your styling options. But if you have a particular style in mind (like sundresses or snow boots), then you can plan your photo shoot at a location and during a time of year that will accommodate that. This early spring session was ideal for a long, gauzy dress paired with a suit.
2. What is your wedding style?
I love it when a couple’s engagement style compliments their wedding style. Most couples use images from their engagement sessions for save the date cards, a wedding website, and even to display at the wedding itself. So it makes sense to take into account how you will style your wedding. Is your look soft and romantic, sleek and sophisticated, boho and floral, modern and minimalist, etc? Think about your wedding dress, what the bridal party will be wearing, and your venue. Then choose an engagement session location and wardrobe that compliments it. This couple loved a more feminine and romantic spring look.
3. What will show off who you are as a couple?
Just as you want to style your wedding to reflect who you are as a couple, you will want to do the same for your engagement session. Friends and family love to see engagement pictures that show off your style as a pair. If you are a more casual duo who love nature and your pets, then coordinate with your photographer the perfect location that can include your furry friend. Or maybe you enjoy time in the city and dressing up. Go ahead and break out a stunning dress, heels, and a suit for him. In any case, be yourself and have fun with it! For this couple, a private location for dancing in the rain and running through the orchard made for the perfect day.
